APHRS welcome you to Sydney! Here are some handy tips for local and international delegates arriving in the city:

Getting to and from Sydney Airport

Sydney Airport offers various transport options including taxis, rideshares, and public transport. The Airport Link train is a convenient way to get to the city centre.

Taxi/Uber: Taking a taxi from Sydney Airport to city is a great way to get there quickly. The cost is around AUD $45-$65, and travel time is 20-30 minutes.

Conference Venue

Our venue is ICC Sydney (International Convention Centre) is located at 14 Darling Drive, Sydney. More information on the venue is available here. Please note that ICC Sydney is a cashless venue and only accept card/digital payment.

SIM Cards and Wi-Fi: You can purchase a local SIM card at the airport or delegate Wi-Fi will be available at the ICC.

Currency/Payment: In Australia, retail outlets accept card/digital/card on phone payments. Many outlets will be cashless and only accept card/digital payments.

Currency exchange services and Cash machines are available at the airport and within easy walking distance from ICC.

Health & Safety

Emergency Numbers: Dial 000 for police, fire, or medical emergencies.

Health Services: The nearest hospitals are St Vincent’s Hospital and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital – both have 24-hour emergency departments.

Local Etiquette

Tipping: Tipping is not mandatory or expected in Australia, but it is appreciated for outstanding service. A 10% tip is common in fine dining restaurants.

Climate: Sydney has a temperate climate. In spring, days are warmer but the humidity is not as high as summer. Average daily temperatures range from a low of 11 – 23°C (51.8 – 73.4°F) but can be higher. Our Bureau of Meteorology website is the best resource for weather forecast.

Clothing: Dress code for the conference will be business casual. Dress in layers to adapt to changing weather. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended for exploring the city.

Food and Dining

Cuisine: Sydney, as a very multicultural city, offers a diverse range of cuisines. Don’t miss trying Sydney’s famous Seafood restaurants.

Dining Hours: Most restaurants serve lunch from 12 PM to 2 PM and dinner from 6 PM to 9 PM. Cafes often open earlier for breakfast.

Shopping

Shopping Districts: Popular shopping areas include Pitt Street Mall, Queen Victoria Building, and The Rocks Markets.

Tax-Free Shopping: International visitors can claim a refund on the Goods and Services Tax (GST) for purchases over AUD 300. Visit the Tourist Refund Scheme for details.

Language and Communication

Language: English is the primary language spoken. Most people in Sydney are fluent in English.
Local Phrases: Familiarize yourself with some Australian slang, like “G’day” (Hello) and “Arvo” (Afternoon).
